-March 2004
3/29/04 - 2:40 PM - Rendered a little video of the robots coming over the hill side between the town and the statue. Nothing big but videos are always fun. Robots cresting hill. 3/29/04 - 4:50 AM - Ok last update of the night, this is rediculous it's almost light outside. This is just an idea of blocking of where the robots will be when they attempt to stand the statue back up into its original position. Robots standing around fallen statue. 3/29/04 - 4:37 AM - Another new scene here. This is of the robots arriving at the statue with the lab in the background. Robots arrive at statue. 3/29/04 - 3:49 AM - Why have I not gone to sleep yet. Another quick update of the robots walking over the crest of the hill. I just added a bit of dust and sand that I figured would be blowin around. Robots with sand storm type thing. 3/29/04 - 2:24 AM - I don't know if some speed got into my tea tonight or if it's just because all I did was go fishing today but I've got another scene put together. After the robots reach the top of the hill side where the statue sits. This is the robots actually cresting the hillside here's the screen shot and then I think it will probably cut to some scenery shots before we cut to the robots walking up to robot statue. All in good time, probably a video by morning as well, anyway Robots reach crest of hill. 3/29/04 - 1:03 AM - Next in chronological order comes the robots aproaching the large hill that blocks the exit out of town. This scene is them begining their acent and gives the viewer a small sense of situational irony, that is, we see that they are about to make a huge discovery. Robots aproach hill and lab. 3/28/04 - 10:17 PM - I've been working on preparing the next scene which takes place in a big open, kind of hilly area in front of the lab. It's dificult just because of how huge the area is. Well I thought I'd just put a quick update of how it's comin alond, mainly I have texturing problems to deal with but I have a few modeling logicstical things left. Eitherway here's a quick screen shot of Statue with labratory. 3/22/04 - 2:18 AM - Wasn't done until much later then expected but here is the video of the robots making their aproach towards the old train within the city. This isn't a very long clip just gives a nice idea of scale and helps move the movie along. Robots aproaching train movie. 3/17/04 - 10:33 PM - Another screenshot from the next train scene. This shot gives a closer picture of the train and the robots standing around talking about the implications of discoverin ght machine. Robots in front of train. 3/17/04 - 8:42 PM - Added the robots to the scene and took a quick screenshot of them aproaching the train. The video of the aproach should be finished rendering by thurs morning. So here's that one Robots Aproaching Train. 3/17/04 - 2:01 AM - One more shot of the train in the city looking out on the next two and final scenes. I'll have to continue to refine all of these things in the next few days but I've picked up some momentum so it's looking good. Here's the last picture for tonight. Looking Out of City. 3/16/04 - 11:42 PM - I've made the train for the next scene in the movie. It's still pretty much in prototype phase, I have to add alot of stuff to it and make a destroyed version of the building you see behind it in the picture. I'm probably going to add power cables, tracks, and maybe some assorted "stuff" to hang off of it. Well anyway we'll see so here it is. Train Prototype in City. 3/16/04 - 12:27 PM - Ok rendered a quick video from inside the church of the three robots aproaching the altar and having a brief look around, there's actually about another 4 - 10 sec in this scene but they are basicly just standing there talking so no need for that till later. There are also another 2 maybe 3 camera angles to be had so that will be coming once I have the dialogue as well. so anyway here it is Robots Aproach Altar. Oh yeah if you look close I added a little effect of those little sprites that float around in direct sunlight, ya know the little dust balls you can see floating in the air, it might be hard to see em cause the video is low quality but they're there, thought that would be a nice little touch. =) 3/16/04 - 1:15 AM - That happened quicker then I expected it to so here's a quick screen shot of all three robots at their spots in the church. These are the spots they'll be in when they deliver their dialogue before heading back out into the city. All Robots at the altar. 3/16/04 - 12:30 AM - Well another quick screenshot here. This is of one of the robots aproaching the altar in the church. the other three robots will be right behind and after I get the other two robots in the scene I'll render a video and get that posted then on to the next scene. Robot Aproaching Altar. 3/15/04 - 2:00 AM - I almost forgot Feb.'s posts have been moved to the archive page, if you haven't been here for a while check out feb. there's some good stuff and if this is your first time definatley get caught up on what's going on there' tons of good stuff in there. =) Enjoy! 3/15/04 - 1:50 AM - As promised the second render of the robot entering the church is done. I don't particularly care for this shot and if it were to be used it would need quite a bit of refinment, but that's ok because I only intended it to be another point of refrence in the scene and the more you guys can see the more you can understand what this "world" looks like. Well anyway Here's the second camera angle. 3/11/04 - 5:38 PM - Ok here's a quick clip of the robot entering the church. I accidently rendered the wrong camera so that's why it wasn't up earlier this morning, oh well there's another camera angle rendering now and will be up on mon, have a lvoely weekend. Robot Entering Church. 3/11/04 - 12:54 AM - Here's the screenshot of the interior of the church over the entering robot's shoulder. Church Interior. 3/11/04 - 12:48 AM - After the computer crashed on me last week and I lost the video of the first of the robots entering the church I did get around to fixing it and redoing the scene until just now. So here is a screenshot of the church front after the robot knocked the door down and is prepared to enter, I'll put up one for screenshot of the interior of the church and probably one of the robot going up the steps. Robot Entering Church. 3/10/04 - 1:00 PM - Well I know some people can't download the videos or can't watch them or whatever so I decided to just put up screen shots so you can see the diference in the desert areas. This first scene is how the dessert was. The old dessert and this is what the new one looks like New dessert terrain. 3/10/04 - 12:55 PM - Updated one of the videos from a while ago so you all could see what the new desert looks like. Robot Picking Flower. 3/8/04 - 11:24 AM - OK I pieced together all of the video I have and what wasn't rendered I've inserted the playblasts in their place but this will give a basic idea of the continuity of the film up through their entry into the city. Obviously these are not finished quality nor is there any dialogue and some of these renders are based on the old sets and aren't the new updated ones but eitherway now that I've gotten your hopes down =) Here it is. 3/2/04 - 12:38 AM - All of Feb. is backed up on the archive page so I'll be deleting it off this page in a week or so. 3/1/04 - 6:04 PM - Ok well I did a render test to see if the longer render times are worth it. So I picked a scene with lots of reflective surfaces and complex models and rendered one with what I consider pretty good quality settings and the other with what Maya refers to as "Production Level" settings now you tell me if this is worth the time 33 minute render time. or this one 6 minute render time. Can't tell the diference? Yeah neither can I. Contents © 2004 Matthew Hickman |
